In 2025, the Brevet de Randonneur des Alpes (BRA) will celebrate its 52nd edition

MONTAGNE_BRA

Founded in 1936, the BRA is the oldest alpine cycling event. Starting and finishing in Bourg d’Oisans, this 180 km route, with a 4,200-meter elevation gain, forms a loop that takes riders through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Alps. Climbing the Col de la Croix de Fer or the Col du Galibier is no easy task, but the BRA is more than just a sporting challenge. First and foremost, it is a human adventure, set in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. No winners or losers. Just the pleasure of cycling at your own pace while enjoying magnificient scenery.

Ride at Your Own Pace – 1 or 2 Days

Whether you choose the 2-day BAC option (Saturday, July 12th, and Sunday, July 13th) or the 1-day BRA option (Sunday, July 13th), you will follow the same scenic route.

Your journey begins with the ascent to the Col de la Croix de Fer (alt. 2,067 m), where you can admire the crystalline peaks of the Aiguilles d’Arves, before descending through the charming resort villages of St. Sorlin and St. Jean d’Arves. Next, the Col du Mollard (alt. 1,615 m) will lead you into the Maurienne Valley via Gévoudaz.

At St. Michel de Maurienne, the halfway point, you’ll start the climb to the Col du Télégraphe (alt. 1,567 m), followed by a descent into Valloire (alt. 1,500 m), a picturesque resort village known for its 17 hamlets and bell towers. From there, the legendary Col du Galibier (alt. 2,642 m) awaits. After reaching its summit, be mindful of the exhilarating descent toward the Col du Lautaret.

If you’re feeling strong when you reach Freney d’Oisans, you can opt for the Super BRA challenge, which adds an extra 50 km and 800 meters of elevation gain. This route takes you to Bourg d’Oisans via the Col de Sarenne (alt. 1,999 m) and Alpe d’Huez, offering an even greater test of endurance.

For participants choosing the 2-day BAC option, we offer half-board accommodation (most likely in a dormitory) in either St. Michel de Maurienne or Valloire.
